Park 51 developer criticizes political ad against mosque in race to replace Anthony Weiner

Developer Sharif El-Gamal, the backer of the controversial plans to build a mosque in Lower Manhattan, sharply criticized a recent campaign ad by Republican congressional candidate Bob Turner, a retired business executive running for the old seat of Anthony Weiner in the ninth congressional district on NY1’s Inside City Hall. In the ad, Turner criticizes both his Democratic opponent, former assemblyman David Weprin, and President Barack Obama for their support of the project, which he calls a “mosque on ground zero”.  Gamal emphasized that the mosque is not on Ground Zero and compared the project with the 42nd Street Y.
