A boarded-up vacant residential lot in the suburban area of Douglaston, Queens is frustrating neighbors who believe its being used for commercial storage, NY1 reported. The Department of Building’s Padlocks Unit is investigating if it’s a public nuisance.

The residential plot, at 246-14 Cambria Avenue, is filled with construction equipment branded with the insignia for Queens-based H&S Landscaping, which, according to NY1, owns the site. Neighbors say people come to load and unload the equipment every morning producing the clanging noises that are typically associated with a construction site. But no housing infrastructure has risen on the plot.

“The Department of Buildings has to be much more aggressive in addressing these type of situations,” State Senator Tony Avella said. “We should be able to tell this construction company, ‘You know what? We’re going to seize those containers.'”

Public records show the land was last sold in 2009 to a person named Kum Ho Ha for $595,000. It’s currently on the market for $689,000, according to PropertyShark.com. [NY1]
