The United Talmudic Academy has been roped into the investigation of former New York City Corrections Department chaplain Rabbi Leib Glanz’s alleged housing fraud.

As The Real Deal previously reported, the former New York City Corrections Department chaplain is being investigated for stealing more than $200,000 in federal rent subsidies. He allegedly used Section 8 housing funds, obtained under his brother’s name, to pay rent for his apartment at 85 Ross Street in Williamsburg.

The landlord for the apartment is the UTA, which controls 17 buildings for its 8,000 students, including tax-exempt housing units reserved for faculty, students and rabbis.

Glanz was living in the apartment despite no longer working for the academy, which raises questions as to why he was living their in the first place. As a result, the city’s Department of Investigation subpoenaed the UTA to further inspect its housing practices. [Post]
