Howard Hughes meets with LPC on Pier 17

Howard Hughes Corp., which leases the South Street Seaport, has begun sharing its plan for redeveloping Pier 17 with the Landmarks Preservation Committee, according to Crain’s. Monday was the most recent meeting between the developer and the city commission.

The developer hopes to file its plan with the committee sometime early this year. Community Board 1 has indicated they would prefer plans for both Pier 17 and the seaport as a whole, that are not too tall and don’t attract so many tourists.

The new Pier 17 plan, by SHoP Architects, includes more glass, a garden roof and walkways which bisect the mall, Crain’s said. [Crain’s]
