Slave Theater landlord squabbles with “squatters”

The fight over a historic Bedford-Stuyvesant theater is heating up, the Brooklyn Paper reported.

The Slave Theater, as the dilapadated site at Fulton and Bedford avenues in Bed-Stuy is known, could be sold for around $3 million, according to owner Samuel Boykin, if only he could get the “squatters” out. But the Messengers for Christ World Healing Center congregation, who occupy the second floor of the structure, told the paper that they have always paid rent.

Rev. Paul Lewis, head of Messengers for Christ said the allegation that his group does not pay rent was “a lie from the pit of hell.”

Boykin and Lewis will meet in court Jan. 26, the Brooklyn Paper said. [Brooklyn Paper]
