Long Island lands Neiman Marcus

After 15 years of negotiation and speculation, Long Island will finally be home to Neiman Marcus, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The luxury retailer, who had planned to be the anchor tenant at Taubman Centers’ Mall at Oyster Bay, in Oyster Bay, N.Y. for more than a decade, will now build a 100,000-square-foot building at Garden City’s Roosevelt Field Mall, in Garden City, N.Y. the paper said.

The building, set to be part of a $200 million redevelopment of the mall, will be completed in 2015 if everything goes according to schedule. The Roosevelt Field Mall is owned by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group. The Oyster Bay project stalled due to environmental concerns, the Journal said.

“We have been waiting patiently to get” a store open at the Oyster Bay facility, said Wayne Hussey, senior vice president at Neiman. “After we saw what Simon was proposing we thought this is our best shot at getting [a store] on the Island.” [WSJ]
