Former Esquire publisher trades up at Trump International Hotel & Tower

Alan Greenberg, the former publisher of Esquire Magazine and the president of Avenues, the world’s first global school system, has listed his two-bedroom spread at the Trump International Hotel & Tower for $5.75 million, he told The Real Deal today, and moved up to an $11 million unit on a higher floor in the building.

The former men’s magazine head said he and his wife, Joy, needed more space since the recent birth of their grandson, who will be visiting regularly. He said he loves the building, with its “extraordinary Central Park and Columbus Circle views.”

Greenberg, who published Esquire in the 1980s, purchased unit #25C in 2000, according to public records before listing it for sale on Tuesday.

The 1,591-square-foot apartment, which is listed by Roger Erickson of Sotheby’s International Realty, features 10-foot ceilings, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room and kitchen. Both bedrooms also face Central Park, according to the listing. All units in the tower come with access to the hotel’s fitness center, swimming pool and four-star restaurant, Jean Georges.

Greenberg has meanwhile gone into contract for a 30th-floor apartment at the tower for $11 million, #30 A, he said. The three-bedroom, 2,094-square-foot unit recently underwent a renovation, according to the listing. Erickson also had that listing.

Avenues, the global school system of which Greenberg is president, is slated to open its first campus in Chelsea this fall, and hopes to open 20 more schools in international cities over the next decade.

The school, at 259 10th Avenue, will be adjacent to the High Line. The 10-story 215,000-square-foot building, designed by architect C.P.H Gilbert, is currently under renovation, according to news reports.
