State selling homes of prison personnel

The state of New York is planning to sell the  sometimes opulent homes that were built to house prison superintendents, in its latest bid to balance the budget, the New York Post reported. Among the homes on the block is the eight-bedroom mansion on the ground of the Auburn Correctional Facility, a three-story, 12,610-square-foot brick residence in Auburn, N.Y. A total of 11 homes should be hitting the market throughout the state.

“Clearly a lot of these properties are quite desirable and could be sold or leased on the open market, refilling the state coffers,” Bronx State Senator Jeff Klein, who had asked that the properties be sold in a 2010 report, told the Post. [Post]
