Mayor Bloomberg denies September 11 Museum construction is progressing

Is construction moving forward despite the uncertain financing situation on the September 11 Museum? It depends whom you ask. The New York Post reported that one day after Port Authority of New York & New Jersey insisted to families of victims of the attack that construction is moving forward to open the museum on time in September, Mayor Michael Bloomberg claimed the opposite.

“I read in the paper that the Port Authority said construction continues,” Bloomberg said. “That really isn’t true. Construction on the museum has basically been stopped for more than a year now.”

Port Authority said it has spent $2 million every month to continue construction and that work never halted. But Bloomberg claims that work is just for maintenance and no substantial progress is being made.

The progress of construction on the museum has been in limbo in recent months as the Port Authority and the city have sparred over who is responsible for cost overruns. [Post]
