Dutch writer sells UES townhouse for $21M

An Upper East Side townhouse owned by a noted Dutch writer has sold for $21 million, after being listed last at $23 million, city records and Streeteasy.com show. The five-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion at 26 East 73rd Street hit the market about two years ago, and was at one pointed being scoped by none other than Jerry Seinfeld, according to previous reporting from Curbed.com.

Kees van Beijnum, the seller, is a Dutch novelist whose books have been made into films in the Netherlands. He bought the apartment for $18 million in 2007, according to city records. The buyer was identified only as East 73rd Street LLC.

Meredyth Smith and Serena Boardman of Sotheby’s International Realty shared the listing with Paula Del Nunzio of Brown Harris Stevens.

The five-story home features an elevator, gas and wood-burning fireplaces, central air, and “central stereo” — an amenity The Real Deal has not previously encountered, but we assume means that music can be heard throughout the house. The facade is “classic limestone,” the listing says.
