Long lines could be coming to 18 East 39th Street. Crain’s reported that the Department of Motor Vehicles is eyeing a 30,000-square-foot lease in a space located in the building, situated off Madison Avenue.

The New York State Office of General Services confirmed that it is searching for new DMV space, however a spokesperson declined to tell Crain’s whether or not 18 East 39th Street is actually on the DMV’s radar. But she did say that the DMV is looking to Move From Its Office Located Inside Manhattan Mall On 33rd Street and Sixth Avenue.

Unnamed sources told Crain’s that retail space in the vicinity of 18 East 39th Street commands rents of about $100 a square foot. The 30,000-square-foot area encompasses both retail and second-floor office space.

The building is owned by the Sapir Organization, and has seen some recent leasing activity. In June, Earl G. Graves, the publishing firm, inked a 27,000-square-foot lease for the 11th floor of the building. [Crain’s] — Zachary Kussin
