Unlike their Yankee counterparts, several young Mets players have decided against glitzy Manhattan digs and are living in two skyscrapers on the Long Island City waterfront, the New York Post reported.

The players and their manager, Terry Collins, are renters in the Avalon Riverview, a 39-story tower and a 32-story tower along the East River, sources in the neighborhood told the Post. Monthly rents in the buildings range from $2,200 to $6,000.

“We all live in Long Island City together, we all live in the same apartment building — so it’s nice for the wives to be able to lean on each other,” Leah Niese, wife of southpaw pitcher Jon Niese, told the Post. Other players in the area include pitcher Dillon Gee, right fielder Mike Baxter and star player David Wright, Niese added.

“When the guys go for a long road trip, we can stay with each other, and we’re right there if we ever need anything,” she said.

The lifestyle in the Long Island City enclave is in stark contrast to that chosen by Yankees superstars Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. Jeter recently sold his penthouse at Trump World Tower for $15.5 million, as The Real Deal reported. Rodriguez rents a pad at the ultra-exclusive Aldyn. [NYP] –Hiten Samtani
