Although John Catsimatidis is no longer in the running for mayor, some residents are still talking trash.
The grocery mogul and former Republican mayoral hopeful’s Washington Heights neighbors have complained that a lot he owns is littered with broken glass, discarded cups, plates, chairs and other debris.
The lot, located at 2080 Amsterdam Avenue, has been vacant for years. Hurricane Sandy caused a wooden fence to fall down and further expose the messy property, which Catsimatidis bought in 1984. Residents requested that Community Board 12 intervene. The board then called the Department of Sanitation to assist in cleanup.
A new wire fence was put up, but the site remains loaded with garbage, neighbors told DNAinfo.
“If you can’t take care of your home, you can’t care of your business,” nearby resident Antawn Mitner said. “This is his property … As it stands right now, it’s an eyesore.” [DNAinfo] — Mark Maurer
