More than 800 people have signed a petition protesting a proposed Tribeca condominium being built by DDG Partners, saying that the eight-story glass building is “historically inappropriate.”

The petition states that “not only will this monolithic glass wall upend historic Tribeca, but the building is out of scale and architectural context for such small lots,” DNAinfo reported. The petition also says the building would cause Franklin Street to lose light and trees, increase the traffic in the area, and endanger historic buildings. The Landmarks Preservation Commission is set to review the project on Nov. 12.

Community Board 1 will hold a special landmarks committee meeting to discuss the project next week. DDG representatives were not immediately available, DNAinfo said.

Earlier this week, DDG agreed to pay $70 million for a 130,000-square-foot Upper East Side development site owned by Muss Development, as The Real Deal reported. [DNAinfo]  – Hiten Samtani
