Two hotel companies are battling it out for control of the 6 Columbus hotel in Midtown, after the majority owner discovered that the firms composing Commune Hotels & Resorts split.

This summer, the Pomeranc-Group-founded Thompson Hotels of New York parted ways with Joie de Vivre of California, ending what had been a joint venture known as Commune Hotels & Resorts. After the divorce, Pomeranc was left with just four hotel properties, one of which is 6 Columbus at 308 West 58th Street. However, the majority owner of the hotel, 308 Hotel Corp., claims that it was unaware that Commune was no longer managing the building, and has sent a letter to Pomeranc accusing him of breach of contract.

“I can’t comment on the letter,” Pomeranc CEO Jason Pomeranc told Crain’s, “but we are operating 6 Columbus. We are partners in it and there is no conflict that exists in the ownership partnership.”

Pomeranc has since renamed his company Sixty Hotels, which he insists will continue to manage the hotel, according to Crain’s.

“The owners on different properties needed to be filled in as to what was going on; the sale appeared in the press before the owners could be spoken to,” said Pomeranc. “I think there was confusion.” [Crain’s]Christopher Cameron
