NYC brokers on satisfying the Hollywood set

Manhattan living might as well be a foreign planet to Los Angeles’ moneyed movers and shakers, and its up to Big Apple brokers to square their sprawling expectations with New York City’s reality: much less square footage.

Parking, the green outdoors and far less common space are only a few of the shocks to which West Coasters must adjust in order to live happily in New York, brokers say.

But fortunately, with enough green of another sort at one’s disposal, there’s much to be done about making this crammed urban jungle just a tad more livable.

“L.A. people are obsessed with parking,” Ryan Serhant of Nest Seekers International and Million Dollar Listing New York fame told the Hollywood Reporter, noting his penthouse offering at 200 11th Avenue that comes complete with a rare (and, at $23 million, plenty pricey) sky garage.

Other buyers gravitate toward green space wherever they can find it, whether on their own floor or out among the masses. Douglas Elliman broker Fredrik Eklund’s $43 million 11 North Moore penthouse listing will boast 3,500 square feet of outdoor space that includes an outdoor swimming pool. For others, properties along Central Park carry the most appeal.

“Central Park front is still the trophy position in New York,” John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens told the Reporter. “And for people in the entertainment business, they tend to prefer Central Park West. It’s a little more relaxed, a little more casual.” [Hollywood Reporter]Julie Strickland
