Thor Equities’ Joseph Sitt has ponied up funds for City Council member Domenic Recchia’s bid to win a congressional seat. Sitt made a personal donation of $5,200 – the maximum amount stipulated by campaign finance laws – to Recchia, and Sitt’s wife, Betty, donated the same amount.

Recchia, a Democrat who represents Coney Island, was instrumental in getting a zoning change passed in Coney Island that allowed Sitt to move ahead with major development plans in the area, according to Brooklyn Daily. Recchia is looking to unseat Rep. Michael Grimm, R.-N.Y., as the representative for Staten Island, Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, and parts of Gravesend, Brooklyn Daily said.

Sitt and Recchia declined to comment to the publication on the donations.

In October, Sitt announced that he was partnering with Alan Klein and Jonathan Fishman, both formerly of Stonehenge Partners, to launch Thor’s new residential division. [Brooklyn Daily]Hiten Samtani
