A new plot line has emerged in the feud within the Feil Organization, according to a lawsuit recently filed in state Supreme Court. Stanley Barry, brother-in-law to Jeffrey Feil, is alleging that Feil hired an architect to renovate his Fifth Avenue apartment at discount rates in exchange for the chance to work on two buildings owned by the Feil family.
Barry owns a 12 percent stake in an LLC that owns 444 East 82nd Street and 445 East 80th Street, two Upper East Side rental buildings with a combined 550 units. Barry is alleging that because architect H. Thomas O’Hara worked at below-market rates on Feil’s own 1049 Fifth Avenue pad, he was awarded noncompetitive contracts to work on the two rental buildings, resulting in the LLC overpaying for the work.
Feil has denied that his actions were improper, according to the Wall Street Journal, saying in a deposition that he had no knowledge of O’Hara’s work on his apartment. O’Hara said in a deposition that the work on Feil’s apartment was worth between $5,000 and $7,500, but that his firm did it gratis as a professional courtesy.
