Snow buildup from the latest round of winter storms caused the roof of a CVS in the Bronx to collapse on Wednesday. Last night, the building was demolished.

All the customers and employees were evacuated out of the 16,800-square-foot space at 694 Burke Avenue before the roof caved in, thanks to workers who noticed tiles falling from the ceiling.

“This particular building was built in 1954, and they don’t stand up well to a heavy, heavy snowload,” said the deputy assistant chief of the FDNY, James Daly, to Gothamist. “So real good job by the store employees recognizing these warning signs and getting the people out.”

The landlord, listed in property records as Bronx-based Vele Brothers Burke Corporation, demolished the building overnight. The tenant was an LLC known as CVS Albany that had leased the space since 2007, according to city records. [Gothamist] Angela Hunt
