The west side of Manhattan – specifically Chelsea, the West Village and the Upper West Side – was the go-to spot for prospective renters searching for a one-bedroom apartment last week, according to Zumper, an apartment listings website. Chelsea was the most in-demand Manhattan neighborhood overall, followed by the West Village, Murray Hill, Central Harlem and Greenwich Village. The West Village was No. 1 the previous week.

Demand was evenly divided among the apartment types, ranging from studios to three-bedrooms — signifying a rare surge in interest for the latter.

Studios had 26 percent of the leads and a median inquiry of $2,350 per month. One- and two-bedrooms tied with one quarter of the leads each, the median inquiries being $2,495 and $2,800 per month, respectively. Three-bedrooms, which typically lags in the category, had the remaining 24 percent of the leads and a $3,100 monthly median inquiry.

Two- and three-bedroom searches were most prevalent for Central and West Harlem among prospective renters, Zumper data show.

Methodology: Zumper determined the rankings by using a representative sample of emails and phone calls from renters interested in its Manhattan listings available for the week ending March 16. — Mark Maurer
