Senator Schumer and Citi Bikes

Senator Charles Schumer likes Citi Bike, despite its mounting financial woes, and he is putting the city’s money where his mouth is.

The senator is backing a measure that would provide a subsidy for Citi Bike, as well as other struggling programs, that would allow employees to set aside $20 a month in pre-tax income for memberships, according to the New York Daily News.

Schumer included the bike program subsidy in a tax break package that the Finance Committee passed Thursday. The state Senate is expected to approve the bill, however Republicans will likely counter with their own tax break agenda. [NYDN]Christopher Cameron
