The Washington Heights Congregation sold its temple at 815 West 179th Street and plans to move to a space at the base of the Mount Sinai Jewish Center.

The Modern Orthodox Jewish synagogue has been at the 179th Street location, near the George Washington Bridge, for nearly 43 years, and president Robert Wolf said necessary repairs would be too costly.  The new space at 135 Bennett Avenue will be smaller.

“We’ve been looking for a buyer for some time,” Wolf told DNAinfo. “It was getting to a point where repairs were becoming more prohibitive.”

The terms of the sale were not provided to DNAinfo. A final Shabbat service on 179th Street is slated for May 17. [DNAinfo]Mark Maurer
