The tax man cometh, whether you try to block him or not.

This is the lesson Sandra Lee, Food Network star and girlfriend to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, learned recently when the value of her Westchester home jumped 29 percent.

Phil Platz, the assessor, told the New York Post that he visited the pair’s New Castle home on May 27. “I was on the property, the exterior only,” he told the newspaper.

Based on the exterior, Platz deemed the house at 4 Bittersweet Lane worth $253,200 instead of the prior valuation of $196,750.

Lee bought the home for $1.2 million in 2009 and pays $28,312 in taxes, according to the Post. But with the higher valuation, the “Semi-Homemade” star will have to fork out an additional $8,210.

Cuomo’s gubernatorial opponent, Rob Astorino, immediately pounced on the incident.

“New Yorkers deserve to know whether or not their governor is a tax cheat,” Astorino said in a statement. [NYP] – Claire Moses
