Fight continues over Brooklyn Bridge Park development
Lawyers for the city, residents square off in court today
Brooklyn residents who oppose the mayor’s plan to build below-market-rate apartments in Brooklyn Bridge Park are scheduled to meet the city’s lawyers in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Friday.
A judge will hear a motion to block the city from selecting a developer for the site, according to the Wall Street Journal.
While Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed building a development in the 85-acre waterfront park, residents are trying to reduce the size and scope of the project, and possibly even scrap the plan to build new housing altogether.
Initially, the new developments were supposed to help pay for park operations. Under de Blasio’s plans, less money would flow into the park than originally expected.
