WEEKENDEDITION In Manhattan, $3 million won’t get you much more than a one-bedroom. But in Britain it can earn you land and a title.

Hugh Clayton Lowther, the eighth Earl of Lonsdale, is selling off an entire mountain from his family’s vast estate, which comes with the title: Lord of the Manor of Threlkeld.

For roughly $3 million the buyer will receive the mountain Blencathra, which offers soaring views of the Lake District village.

“There was an immediate kind of feeling that it would be great if the outdoor community could buy it, rather than some rich tycoon who wants to own a mountain and be lord of the manor of Threlkeld,” Sir Chris Bonington, one of Britain’s best-known Himalayan mountaineers and Everest summiteers, told the New York Times.
