WEEKENDEDITION For years a small park in Fort Greene has been padlocked. But now the city is finally pushing to make the park safe for public use once again.

BAM Park, bounded by Lafayette Avenue and Fulton and Saint Felix streets, was closed nine years ago due to unstable ground. However, Mayor De Blasio announced in mid-July that his administration will fix up the green-space, according to Brooklyn Paper.

“To take back a park that was literally shuttered for so long is really great,” said Andrew Kalish, director of cultural development for the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, which is assisting in the effort to reopen the park.

The overgrown park is located above the Fulton G station and around the corner from the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Peter Jay Sharp building.

The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership has already selected an architect to redesign the park, according to the mayor’s office, and raised $2 million from the pro-development Empire State Development Corporation. [Brooklyn Paper]Christopher Cameron
