In the wake of recent casinos closing in Atlantic City, developers are looking to open new gaming establishments closer to New York City.
The Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce is planning to unveil plans for a large, Las Vegas-style casino at the Meadowlands Sports Complex.
The proposal includes two 1,000-room hotels, a million-square-foot convention center and a youth sports center immediately northeast of MetLife Stadium and next to the planned American Dream shopping mall, water park and amusement park. The location is less than 10 miles from New York City. The proposal also includes 20,000 additional parking spaces across several garages. A monorail would transport people around the complex.
Companies in New York State are also looking for licenses to open casinos about 50 miles outside of the city.
