The indie film company filed plans to expand its IFC Center theater at 323 Sixth Avenue, doubling the size of the space, from just over 10,000 square feet to just over 20,000, and more than doubling the number of screens, from 5 to 11.

Two screens will be added in the cellar, two on the second floor and two more on the third. One of the first floor screen will be moved to the cellar, according to the permit cited by New York YIMBY.

The theater is likely to expand backwards, into the vacant lot behind it, at 14-16 Cornelia Street. Both plots are owned by Friedland Properties.

The permit was filed by Alejandro Diez of Kliment Halsband Architects. [NY YIMBY]  – Ariel Stulberg
