Three new public schools are set to open in Forest Hills next fall, reducing overcrowding in the area’s education system after years of delays. Though which schools will occupy the campus remains to be seen, the $158 million, five-story project at 90-30 Metropolitan Avenue will be home to a locally zoned high school, a combined district middle and high school and a special education program. The facility will have two full-size gymnasiums, two libraries, energy efficient appliances and a 750-seat auditorium. All in all, the campus will provide for 2,000 new students. A proposed zoning plan will be up for community review next month, and a decision should be finalized by the end of the year.
