    Extell Development, currently in the spotlight for the ongoing success of its new Midtown development One57, is not having such an easy time at another of its prospective developments.

    The company, headed by Gary Barnett, is facing foreclosure at the site of a longstanding flea market known as the Antiques Garage in Chelsea, which it purchased for $42.7 million in 2006 and for which it filed hotel plans a few years ago. A Department of Buildings filing shows Extell filed plans for a 233,544-square-foot, 29-story hotel at the site, at 112 West 25th Street, in 2009. [more]

  • Chelsea’s Antiques Garage flea market that has been operating out of a parking garage at 112 West 25th Street since 1993 will be allowed to continue for the time being, although Extell Development, the owner of the buildings, has the authority to end the agreement with only two weeks notice, DNAinfo reported. Extell bought the property in 2006 for $42.7 million, and has been pushing forward with plans to build a hotel there ever since. According to George Arzt, a spokesperson for Extell, Extell has an amicable relationship with the Antiques Garage and does not yet have any definite plans for the complex. Alan Boss, the market’s founder, is looking for a new space for the garage, such as a nearby parking building. [more]

    Extell Development has filed plans
    to build a 24-story hotel at 30 West 46th Street, just a block away
    from its $750 million Gem Tower, which began construction in May.
    Extell has several new projects in the works. The
    developer filed plans for a hotel at the site of the Antiques
    Garage flea market, at 112 West 25th Street, last week, and another hotel and residential development at 157
    West 57th Street in February. The developer also has two residential
    buildings planned for 147 West 21st Street and 225 West 58th Street.
