From the March issue: Every year, Hamptons broker Jane Gill gets a call from the same Wall Street trader, looking for a summer rental with a fenced-in yard, an acre of property and a garage for his Ferrari. He always calls at the last minute, usually around Memorial Day, hoping to get a good deal: a $200,000 property for about $75,000.

“He works with every broker,” said Gill, a vice president at Saunders & Associates in Bridgehampton. “Last year, I showed him a few things, and then I lost contact with him. I assume he found something.”

He may not find it so easy this year, however. Brokers say that while last year many renters waited until the eleventh hour, they have been receiving calls from interested renters over the last month, and some of the most exclusive properties have already been picked up.  [more]

  • Madonna buys Bridgehampton horse farm

    December 10, 2009 08:46AM

Madonna is coming to the Hamptons and bringing her horses with her. The singer is reportedly buying Wild Ocean Farm, a 30-acre horse farm north of the highway at 450 Mitchells Lane in Bridgehampton. The land, which belongs to Kelly Klein, the ex-wife of Calvin Klein, was purchased for under $10 million without a broker. There’s no house on the farm, save maybe a groom’s apartment, brokers familiar with the property say, and although Madonna is also looking to buy an adjacent 24 acres on 1151 Millstone Road — the property also known as 10 Mitchells Lane is listed at $2.4 million — she probably wouldn’t be able to build a home on either plot. According to internal broker notes obtained by the Post, Suffolk County is angling to buy the development rights for the land, and may already own them. [Post]

An oceanfront home on the market in Bridgehampton saw its price cut by $1 million, or 5 percent, yesterday, according to Streeteasy.com. The home, at 167 Dune Road, is now listed for $21 million, down from the original asking price of $22 million when it went on the market in June. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home has a chef’s kitchen, a built-in stereo system, three-car garage and pool. Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Lori Barbaria, who has the listing, said she thinks the price cut makes the property, built in 2006, a “great deal. There aren’t very many houses available oceanfront in the Hamptons that are already completely done,” she said. TRD [more]

A 14,000-square-foot home in Bridgehampton has seen its price reduced to $15.4 million from $16.9 million, according to Streeteasy.com. The home, at 141 Highland Terrace, first hit the market for $24.5 million three years ago, making today’s price cut 37 percent, before going into foreclosure. Now the eight-bedroom home is owned by a holding company that is hoping to sell the property, Newsday reported. The home, which has a tennis court, pool and wine room, was designed by architect Peter Cook, ex-husband of Christie Brinkley. The Corcoran Group’s Mary Slattery has the listing. TRD [more]

In a market in which many builders and brokers are retreating toward lower prices, one Bridgehampton home charged upward in price by 5 percent within a two-month period to $15.795 million. But Wednesday’s uptick in price wasn’t a tactical one, according to the home’s broker, Vince Horcasitas of Prudential Douglas Elliman, and builder Greg Konner. The duo thought the addition of more bells and whistles merited a price increase. “In this type of market, most people are trying to bid properties down,” Horcasitas said. [more]

  • From the August issue: In the Hamptons, as high-end builder Joe Farrell can attest, $5 million
is the new $10 million. Farrell, who founded his Bridgehampton-based
Farrell Construction in 1996, has built homes for talk show host Kelly
Ripa, actor Kelsey Grammer and former New York City mayor and
presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. Indeed, he has recently made headlines for “Sandcastle,” the
30,000-square-foot home he built on Halsey Lane in Bridgehampton, which
is on the market for $59.5 million. Last month, after the Jonas Brothers, the pop music superstars who
had been prepared to rent it, backed out, he found a taker willing to
shell out $425,000 for a two-week stay this summer. Comments

  • An Eastern European businessman will be paying $425,000 to rent a Hamptons home for two weeks in August, the most money ever paid for a two-week East End rental. The 30,000-square-foot home, called Sandcastle, at 612 Halsey Lane in Bridgehampton, is also on the market for $59.5 million. The home, built and owned by developer Joe Farrell, includes a bowling alley, squash court, rock-climbing wall, spa and pool. Pop group Jonas Brothers reportedly looked at the house as a possible summer rental. Another house Farrell is working on, at 64 Bridge Lane in Bridgehampton, is in contract for around the asking price of $4.9 million. [more]

  • The pop group Jonas Brothers is looking for a rental house in the
Hamptons, according to the Post. So far, the young brothers have
checked out Sandcastle, developer Joe Farrell’s 31,000-square-foot
house at 612 Halsey Lane in Bridgehampton, which comes with a
skateboarding ramp, bowling alley, rock-climbing wall and recording
studio. Farrell said he wants to rent out the home for just two weeks
for $500,000, although another potential renter offered him $1.5
million for the summer. The brothers also looked at the Water Mill home
that was the centerpiece of Henry Ford II’s estate. The
33,000-square-foot home has a game room, tennis court and 1,000 square
    feet of oceanfront.
