From the June issue: Home may be where the heart is, but what if it’s also in the workplace? This month The Real Deal takes a look at couples who work in the real estate industry.
While such pairings aren’t the norm in the business, there are high-profile examples like “Jvanka” — that is, husband-and-wife Jared Kushner, principal of Kushner Companies, and Ivanka Trump, a vice president at the Trump Organization.
Trump has reportedly said that having a shared background in real estate has been a boon to her relationship with Kushner, as she’s keenly interested in his descriptions of work machinations that others might find dull — a sentiment echoed by everyone TRD spoke to with a partner in the industry.
Aside from having a common passion, what makes couples like Trump and Kushner tick?

Ideal Properties Group, the residential rental and commercial leasing
brokerage focusing on brownstone Brooklyn, has opened its third office
in the borough at 232 Court Street near Baltic Street in Cobble Hill.
The new office, a 2,200-square-foot ground-floor space in a landmarked
building, is Ideal’s third in its three-year run. Other locations are
in Park Slope and Gowanus. “We have felt that despite having an active
presence in the charming neighborhoods of Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill,
Carroll Gardens, and Brooklyn Heights…. we were still underserving
the area,” said Erik Serras, CEO of Ideal. The office will debut with
20 brokers and sales agents, the company said. TRD

Renters in the outer boroughs who were previously priced out of
Manhattan are moving back as prices fall. For just $100 more a month, a
publicist left his Greenpoint apartment for a Lower East Side unit
(although it is half the size of his old Brooklyn home), and an editor
left Sunset Park for Midtown, receiving a month of free rent. In the
first three months of the year, one-bedroom rents in Manhattan fell 6.7
percent compared to the previous year, while Brooklyn one-bedrooms saw
rents drop 3.2 percent, according to Citi Habitats and Ideal Properties
Group. Only 9 percent of renters moving to Brooklyn were from Manhattan
during the first three months of the year, while nearly a quarter of
renters migrated from Manhattan to Brooklyn during the same time last
    year, according to Ideal.
