  • Five new hotels to debut in NYC in 2011

    Several new hotels are slated to open in New York City in early 2011, according to Hotel Chatter. First in line is the Nolitan, a boutique hotel at 30 Kenmare Street, set to open Feb. 1. The Mondrian New York, at 9 Crosby Street, is also scheduled to open its doors in early February. The Aloft Brooklyn, at 228 Duffield Street, is slated to open by March 31, according to the hotel’s website. Debuting in the spring is the 125-room Sanctuary Hotel New York Hotel in Times Square, while the Dream Downtown on West 17th Street is looking to open at the end of May on Memorial Day weekend.   • Manhattan hotel projects on the rise

    There are 37 hotels under construction in Manhattan, according to Lodging Development Group’s 2010 Manhattan development report, 32 of which will open this year and five of which are slated to open next year. A potential oversupply, the 2010 figure is up from 21 properties in 2009 and 12 in 2008. Two hotels set to open this year are the Mondrian Soho at 150 Lafayette Street and the Nolitan at 30 Kenmare Street. There are seven additional projects that have been announced or are in the early planning stages but for which building plans have yet to be filed, including a hotel at the Hudson Yards West site near the Javits Center.   • Lower Manhattan
    and Midtown West are each expected to gain at least 20 hotels over the
    next two years, according to a Manhattan hotel report. The report said
    that citywide, a total of 10,298 new hotel rooms could flood Manhattan
    through
    2011, including the Mark and the Double Tree Chelsea, which are
    expected to open in the middle of this year; the Nolitan, which is
    scheduled to open in 2010; and Trump Soho, expected to open this
    September. Of the proposed 50 new hotels citywide, 18 are mid-scale, 22
    are boutiques and just three are pitched as luxury hotels. TRD
