    Urban Outfitters is set to take space at the base of Ariel West tower at 2625 Broadway between 99th and 100th Streets this summer. The location marks the apparel and household products retailer’s seventh Manhattan location, according to a press release from Newmark Knight Frank, which represented the landlord. A kosher restaurant called My Most Favorite Food is opening soon at 247 West 72nd Street between Broadway and West End Avenue. On the Upper East Side, Exhale spa has opened in Manhattan House at 200 East 66th Street on the corner of Third Avenue. A Neapolitan-style pizzeria is opening in Midtown at 120 East 57th Street between Park and Lexington avenues.
    The Brickyard Gastropub is slated to open in Midtown on the corner of Ninth Avenue and 52nd Street. After a brief hiatus, Solo restaurant at 550 Madison Avenue between 55th and 56th streets is reopening today, according to a press release. In Greenwich Village, Pubblico Espresso Bar is opening at 124 MacDougal Street near the corner of West 3rd Street. [more]

  • In & Out boutique and Ellis Bar

    On the Upper East Side, new Swedish beauty boutique In & Out has opened on Madison Avenue between 77th and 78th streets. Today only, the Time Warner Center at 10 Columbus Circle is offering a pop-up tea party from until 6 p.m., featuring tea service, snacks and other treats. In Midtown, the Heartland Brewery is coming to where 41st Street intersects with the Port Authority, Eater reported. In Chelsea, a new eatery called Alpha Asian Cuisine is opening on the corner of Eighth Avenue and 19th Street. Famed restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten has opened a new restaurant called ABC Kitchen on the first floor of ABC Carpet in Gramercy at 18 East 35th Street between Park Avenue South and Broadway. New Indonesian restaurant Satay Junction has opened at 28 Greenwich Avenue between Charles and West 10th streets in the West Village. Also, restaurateur Cobi Levy is one step closer to opening a tapas bar at the former Beatrice Inn spot at 285 West 12th Street on the corner of West 4th Street, after getting some tepid support from Community Board 2.     On the Upper East Side, Lanvin is slated to open a third U.S. boutique at 815 Madison Avenue between 68th and 69th streets in mid-June. In Midtown, a new Grand Sichuan is opening on 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. Mustang Cafe at 22 West 38th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues is open. Brooklyn chain Nutbox, which has a Chelsea Market location, is opening at 49 East 8th Street in the former Big Bag space on the corner of Mercer Street in Greenwich Village. Custom-made jewelry store Mirari at 70 East 1st Street near First Avenue is closing, as is its neighbor Alpana Bawa. The Monk Thrift Shop on Avenue A near 10th Street is relocating, but the site of its new home is unclear. Cheep’s restaurant is heading into the old Cinderella’s Falafel space on the corner of Second Avenue and St. Marks Place, also in the East Village. [more]

    Spanish clothier Desigual is opening a Midtown location near the corner of 34th Street and Fifth Avenue. Murray Hill will soon welcome a new restaurant, Marcony, at 184 Lexington Avenue near the corner of 31st Street. In Gramercy, a new eatery called Baoguette and Thao Noodles has opened at 241 Third Avenue on the corner of 19th Street. Lower East Side ice cream shop Labortorio del Gelato is opening a new location at 188 Ludlow Street near the corner of East Houston this summer. In Brooklyn, Greenwood Heights is getting a new pizza place called Barro at 725 Fourth Avenue. A new boutique shop called Black Gold is opening in Carroll Gardens at 461 Court Street in the near future. In Queens, at JFK airport’s Terminal 4, Palm Bar & Grille opens as Mexican eatery Skinny Cantina sets to open in Long Island City at 47-05 Center Boulevard. Famed Spanish chef Jose Andres said that he plans to open a restaurant in New York City sometime in the next five year. No word yet on what neighborhood he’s eyeing. Amid these openings, there was news of one closure, possibly temporary.     Swarovski crystal retailer has announced plans to open a shop at 200 West 34th Street on the corner of Seventh Avenue, near Penn Station. Secondhand Rose, a 45-year vintage wallpaper shop, is opening a Flatiron location at 230 Fifth Avenue on the corner of 27th Street. Nearby, things are looking good for a summer opening at the Gansevoort Park South at 420 Park Avenue South on the corner of 29th Street. What was supposed to be a pop-up shop for Phaidon books at 100 Wooster Street between Spring and Prince streets in Soho is turning permanent.
    Restaurateur John McDonald is reportedly angling to open a third Mercer Street restaurant. While the official plans are not yet clear, McDonald, who owns Lure Fishbar and MercBar in the Soho neighborhood, is reportedly envisioning it to be an fancy burger joint. In Brooklyn, a group of restaurateurs is pitching a possible burger joint to the Community Board 1 for Greenpoint called Park Picnic. The spot would be located near Lorimer Street and Driggs Avenue. Prospect Heights will soon welcome a new coffee joint called the Penny House Café at 732 Washington Avenue. [more]

    The much-anticipated Upper West Side outpost of Trader Joe’s, at 200 West 72nd Street on the corner of Broadway, is now slated to open in late September or early October, according to Westside Independent. In the West Village, Pizza Roma eatery has just penned a 10-year lease for 1,100-square-feet at 263 Bleecker Street between Morton and Cornelia streets. After a run-in with the law, Busy Bee Bikes has reopened at 437 East 6th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A. Spanish tapas restaurant Lizarran is opening at 45 Mercer Street between Broome and Grand streets. [more]

    Dinner will be served at Torrisi Italian Specialties, at 250 Mulberry Street, near Prince Street, March 9 on the Lower East Side. A Brother Jimmy’s will be arriving in the former Irving Mill space next Monday at 116 East 16th Street, near Irving Place. It’s name: Brother Jimmy’s Union Square. Polar Lounge at the Marcel Hotel recently opened at 201 East 24th Street. Tomorrow is supposed to be opening day for Midtown Kyochon, a Korean fried chicken establishment, on Fifth Avenue between 32nd and 33rd streets, marking the chain’s first Manhattan eatery. [more]

    On the Upper West Side, the Westside Independent brings word of several new retailers. On the corner of 92nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, a new restaurant called Kikuchi Sushi is opening. Valley Drugs has begun welcoming customers at 850 Amsterdam Avenue near 101st Street, where another drug store once stood. A Mediterranean eatery called Vareli is opening at 2869 Broadway between 111th and 112th streets. A new eatery called A+ Thai Place has opened at 1007 Second Avenue between 53rd and 54th streets. A new home furnishings store called La Maisone Supreme is coming to the West Village at 617 Hudson Street on the corner of Jane Street. After closing its Dumbo location, Mexican eatery Hecho en Dumbo is establishing a new location on the Lower East Side at 354 Bowery near 4th Street. Nearby, a new restaurant called JC Hibachi is opening at 198A Orchard Street at the corner of East Houston Street. [more]

    On the Upper West side, Tangled Vine wine bar is opening March 1 at 434 Amsterdam Avenue on the corner of 81st Street. Meanwhile, on the Upper East Side, construction of clothier Reed Krakoff’s new store at 831 Madison Avenue between 69th and 70th streets is underway, and a fall 2010 opening date is expected. In Midtown, new rooftop bar called Upstairs at the Kimberly Hotel plans to open this March at the hotel, at 145 East 50th Street between Lexington and Third avenues. Also in Midtown, My Suit, which sells made-to-measure suits, has opened at 360 Madison Avenue, and is looking for other spaces in the Wall Street and Rockefeller Center areas, according to Women’s Wear Daily. In Chelsea, a spa featuring salt caves — thought to improve complexion and breathing — has opened in Chelsea at 133 West 22nd Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues. The Jane Hotel’s Ballroom is reopening at 113 Jane Street between Washington Street and 11th Avenue in the West Village this Monday after shuttering in October due to neighborhood complaints, according to the Dizzy Fizz.     Upper East Side catering company Michelle’s Kitchen has opened a French/Belgium hybrid Michelle’s Restaurant on 46th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, according to Midtown Lunch. Burberry is reportedly coming to the Upper West Side. Word is spreading that city officials are hoping to install a permanent outdoor market at the South Street Seaport. In Chelsea, popular paella spot Socarrat is opening an adjacent bar called Soccarrat Bar De Vinos at 259 West 19th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Los Angeles-based consignment store Decadestwo plans to open a New York City pop-up shop at 79 Greene Street from March 18 to March 21. In Brooklyn, an international sandwich eatery called Fultummys is opening soon at 221 Columbia Street between Union and Sackett streets in the Columbia Street Waterfront District, according to the Word on Columbia Street blog. An as-of-yet unknown restaurant is setting up shop in Downtown Brooklyn at 189 Bridge Street.
