A West Village townhouse, the owner of which appears to be linked to a company headed by J. Christopher Burch, the ex-husband of fashion designer Tory Burch, has hit the market for $19 million. The home at 340 West 12th Street is one in only a handful of townhomes accompanied by its own private carriage house, according to the listing.

The residence came on the market today, Streeteasy.com shows. It is listed by Peter McCuen of Peter McCuen & Associates. McCuen would not comment on whether J. Christopher Burch is the seller of the property. [more]

Since clothing designer Tory Burch sold her Meadow Lane mansion at a loss this fall, some of her Southampton neighbors have worried that the $11 million sales price would lower the value of their own nearby properties.

An unnamed source told the New York Post that, despite the water damage Burch’s home had sustained from broken pipes, “everyone in the neighborhood is staggered that she sold it at such a low price. It has sparked a lot of worry if this will affect the market and their own homes, but also a lot of speculation as to why she sold it off so cheaply.” [more]

Federal prosecutors filed suit last week to take control of a four-story Chelsea building, seven months after a co-owner of the property pleaded guilty to selling counterfeit Tory Burch merchandise from the location.

The Manhattan office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York filed the suit September 20, seeking the forfeiture of 115 West 28th Street, a 9,884-square-foot commercial and residential building located between Sixth and Seventh avenues; there is an additional 11,376 square feet of development rights, data from PropertyShark.com shows. The block is popular with flower and plant shops, and three hotels have opened there during the past six years. The details of the planned refurbishing are still sketchy, but Southampton architecture expert Sally Spanburgh has already panned the project, according to Cityfile. “The existing house is not so special and so there is an opportunity here to improve upon that, but I guess, like his ex-wife, Mr. Burch doesn’t have the greatest design sensibility when it comes to architecture,” Spanburgh said. Meanwhile, Tory Burch is looking to trade in her Southampton oceanfront contemporary home, now on the market for $17.9 million.

Following her October purchase of a 25-room Georgian mansion in Southampton, womenswear designer Tory Burch is looking to trade in her oceanfront contemporary home, now on the market for $17.9 million. The 6,000-square-foot home, set on 4.5 acres on Meadow Lane, also in Southampton, has six bedrooms, a pool and 200 feet of ocean frontage. Burch bought the property for $22.5 million from her ex-husband in July 2008 and has received approval from the town to tear down the home and rebuild a larger one in its place. Famed womenswear designer Tory Burch has reportedly purchased the Howard Grittis mansion at 500 Ox Pasture Lane in Southampton. Sources say that the mansion was originally marketed with an adjacent parcel of land, but that broker Tim Davis, a senior managing director at the Corcoran Group, split up the land for the sale. Although it’s unclear how much Burch paid for the estate, reports say that the mansion and the adjacent lot — which was purchased by a different buyer — sold for a combined $40 million.
