An Israeli restaurant chain has chosen Miami Beach to open its first U.S. operation, leasing the 3,000-square-foot space for an undisclosed amount.

9Beach would occupy the southern end of a former airline terminal building at 1628 Collins Avenue, between Lincoln Road and 16th Street, after the space is renovated, ExMiami reported.

The Historic Preservation Board for the city approved the restaurant plan at the end of last year. Architect Jeffrey Zephir will be converting the space, turning an adjoining parking lot into outdoor seating for 9Beach.

The northern end of the terminal is currently occupied by Alvin’s Island, a tourist shop, according to the article. A group of New York firms recently purchased a nearby property at 643-657 Lincoln Road for $33 million. [ExMiami] — Angela Hunt
