A proposed 22-story condo building on the Kennedy Causeway received an initial approval from North Bay Village commissioners.

If constructed, the 127-unit building would be one of the tallest in the village. The 155 Kennedy Causeway property was previously occupied by seafood restaurant The Crab House, which had a 30-year run before closing in June 2013. Developer North Bay Causeway LLC recently got the go-ahead to build a 24-story, 132-unit condo-hotel a few blocks away.

The condo building would also include a five-story parking garage and office, retail and restaurant space, according to the Miami Herald. Commissioners are slated to cast a final vote on the project next month.

“We haven’t had new developments for so many years, and this project will bring revenue to the city,” Vice Mayor Eddie Lim said. “I have always thought that the best use of [the] property is a mixed-use structure.” [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
