Wellington council members decided they are not ready to formally oppose the large Minto West development proposed in Palm Beach County’s The Acreage neighborhood.

The council decided on Monday that a resolution urging county commissioners to reject the 6,500-home project is premature. Village officials drafted the measure, but council members said they have not had a chance to discuss the development and determine how it would affect Wellington.

“This should be fully vetted at the council level,” Councilman Howard Coates said during Monday’s agenda review workshop, as cited by the Palm Beach Post. “To have it, right out of the gate, as being in opposition, it frames it in a manner that I’m not comfortable with.”

The Minto West developers recently reached out to council members and asked for an opportunity to present project plans to them before the resolution is voted on. [Palm Beach Post]Eric Kalis
