One of the sons of golfing legend Jack Nicklaus plunked down about $1.1 million on a Palm Beach Gardens home.

Steven and Krista Nicklaus acquired the 13843 Le Bateau Isle residence within the city’s Frenchmans Creek community in a transaction recorded on Monday, according to Palm Beach County records. Seller Sylvia Segal paid $900,000 for the property in 1998. The four-bedroom, 4,269-square-foot home was constructed in 1989.

Northern Trust Co. gave Steven and Krista Nicklaus a $735,000 mortgage for the acquisition.

Andrew and Michael Leibowitz of Leibowitz Realty Group were the listing agents. The Nicklaus’ were represented by Mark Griffin of Coastal Sotheby’s International Realty.

Steven Nicklaus was the only one of Jack Nicklaus’ four sons to not play golf professionally. Instead, he played football at Florida State and worked for the family-owned Nicklaus Companies. Palm Beach Gardens is close to the family’s Jupiter golf course, The Bear’s Club.

For the last 10 years, the Nicklaus family has hosted an annual charity tournament called “The Jake.” The Jupiter event was created after Steven and Krista’s one-year-old son, Jake, died in a drowning accident in 2005. — Eric Kalis
