From the New York site: There is still trouble brewing for Donald Trump and Carl Icahn at the Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City. After years of fighting over benefits, workers are going on strike.

Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union was unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Taj Mahal. And about 1,000 union members staged a walkout Friday, according to the New York Post.

“As a result, nearly a thousand cooks, housekeepers, bellmen and servers from the Trump Taj Mahal will walk off the job this morning ahead of the industry’s biggest holiday weekend to fight for decent wages, basic benefits and the future of their middle class livelihoods,” the union said in a statement issued early Friday.

The strike has hit the casino at its busiest time of the year and it is unclear how the casino plans to continue operations.

The union has been threatening a walkout for over a year. But after Carl Icahn won approval from a bankruptcy judge to trade his debt to equity ownership of the casino, he attempted to cut healthcare and pension benefits. [NYP]Christopher Cameron
