Billionaire Russian developer Vladislav Doronin has selected Chicago-based Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture to design one of his Brickell condo towers.

The project will mark the first in Miami for AS+GG, whose principal designed the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and is designing the second tallest, the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia.

Doronin’s OKO Group plans to build a 47-story luxury condo building on the site at 175 Southeast 25th Street in Miami.

About a year ago, OKO paid close to $48 million to buy out the condo owners at the existing 11-story building. The final owners moved out in July, according to the Next Miami. The building, built in 1971, sits on nearly an acre of bayfront property with 150 feet of waterfront.

The developer is also working on Missoni Baia in Edgewater and a 712-foot tower at 830 Brickell, a site that was leased to Equinox Fitness for a sales center. – Katherine Kallergis
