Landmarking won’t stop Royal Poinciana plan

vote to landmark the Royal Poinciana Plaza has not necessarily killed
developer
Sterling Organization’s plan to redevelop the 12-acre area, tearing
down the Royal Poinciana Playhouse and replacing it with a waterfront
park

Gene Pandula,
chairman of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, encouraged Sterling at a civic association forum yesterday to
present its project to the board for formal review. Area residents are divided
over the future of the playhouse.
