Marlins should chip in more, commissioner says

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez says the Florida Marlins need to contribute nearly $50 million more to the construction of the team’s new stadium before Gimenez will consider voting in support of the project. The team has agreed to pay $155 million toward construction plus rent for the parking garage, but Gimenez says the team needs to contribute about $200 million. At the city level, Miami city commissioners postponed their vote on the project Friday after only four commissioners showed up. Local officials have expressed worries about how long it would take the city and county governments to pay back the debt they will incur in building the stadium.
