Florida, U.S. losing tourist dollars

Tourism industry leaders are pushing the federal government to advertise the United States and make the country easier to visit. Senator Mel Martinez, Republican from Florida, said regulations need to support security, but should not keep visitors away. He’s one of 48 senators co-sponsoring the bill. Florida gets 10 percent of its visitors from overseas, but they spent an average of $1,886 per person while in Florida in 2007, according to Visit Florida. Domestic travelers spent an average of $864.
