Fishy solution for foreclosed pools

Swimming pools in foreclosed Wellington houses will get exotic guests to keep them clean. Amazonian catfish that feed on algae are already installed at pools in neighborhoods hard-hit by foreclosures, including Olympia and Versailles. The pterygoplichthys are commonly known as “plecos” or “sailfin catfish,” are about 18 inches long, and Debra Mitchell, the village’s lead code compliance officer, said they could be an eco-friendly solution to stagnant water in the back yards of the 9 percent of Wellington houses now in foreclosure.
