Trump splits with troubled Fort Lauderdale condo-hotel

A rendering of what was to be known as the Trump International Hotel & Tower

Donald Trump has pulled his name from the $200 million Fort Lauderdale beach condo-hotel that was to be known as the Trump International Hotel & Tower but is now shaping up to be just another victim of South Florida’s real estate crash, instead. The unfinished project is facing foreclosure as well as lawsuits from most of the 100 buyers who paid 20-percent deposits on units in the tower, some of which were priced at more than $30 million. The buyers allege that the developers purposely misled them into believing that Trump was a partner in the hotel, when in fact, Trump now says he only had a licensing deal. “We terminated the licensing deal a long time ago,” Trump said yesterday. “We’re not involved with the foreclosure.” [Sun Sentinel]
