David Stern: the foreclosure ghost

David Stern, who has become the face of the foreclosure document crisis
that has plagued a number of states, especially Florida, in the last six
months, is still something of an enigma. Many attorneys in foreclosure
work say they have yet to see him in court, and Stern has few photos
turn up in online searches. “I do often talk to other leading partners
of the foreclosure mills,” said Thomas Ice, who runs a foreclosure firm
in Royal Palm Beach. “But Stern has been a ghost.” According to Shari
Olefson, the real estate lawyer and author of “Foreclosure Nation,” the
rumor was that Stern, who was born in Illinois, wined and dined people at
banks, and his clients were something like untouchable. He was often
seen sitting courtside at Miami Heat games. [Palm
