Stiles to develop 50,000-square-foot West Marine in Fort Lauderdale

June 02, 2011 10:19AM

Developer Stiles announced it would build a 50,000-square-foot
built-to-suit flagship store for maritime retailer West Marine. The
store has signed a long-term deal with Stiles to lease the space, which
will be the largest West Marine store in the country. The store, which
is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of this year, will see
West relocate from its Fort Lauderdale store at 2300 South Federal
Highway to the new location at 2401 South Andrews Avenue. “We were
delighted to have been selected to build the largest West Marine
flagship store in Fort Lauderdale,” said Terry Stiles, CEO of Stiles. TRD

What will happen to their old space? That’s a big hole at the entry to FLL

Gas is 4 dollars a a gallon and boats are getting repossessed left and right. There is only a small % of people even thinking of buying a boat now. Bridge traffic at Sunrise (boat count) was down 62% from 4 years ago. This is not a wiise expansion on their part

Smart move on there parts. They need to compete will Bass Pro. The top end of the boating industry is alive and well especially in Ft. Lauderdale.
