GL to break ground on 656-unit community near Delray Beach this fall

Builder GL Homes has plans to break ground on a 656-home community on 300 acres west of Delray Beach this fall, despite less-than-optimistic housing reports for the region in recent months. According to the Sun Sentinel, the development, which is to be called the Bridges, will have homes ranging in price from $500,000 to over $1.5 million, and GL is hoping that young families, international buyers and empty nesters will be the likely takers. GL has sold 400 homes so far this year, 250 of which were in southern Palm Beach County. Marcie DePlaza, GL’s division president in the area, said she’s been getting a flurry of inquiries about new projects from prospective buyers, which “gives us the confidence we need to pull the trigger.” Meanwhile, competitors like Toll Brothers, Centerline Homes, Minto Communities and Stiles are all attempting to ratchet up their sales numbers. Toll launched sales at Parkland Golf & Country Club five months ago and now has signed contracts on some two dozen homes, some of which have not been completed yet and others which have tainted Chinese drywall that Toll is addressing. Stiles, meanwhile, has either sold or signed contracts for 71 of its 198 townhouses at Boca Raton’s Centra. [Sun Sentinel]
