Miami-Dade marina market optimistic

Many Miami-Dade marina operators say they have already made back their
losses form the downturn, despite a number of sites that ended up in
foreclosure. “We maintained occupancy by starting to offer ancillary
services that you would typically pay for at other marinas,” said Abbad
Melwani, owner of Rickenbacker Marina. “Our occupants aren’t as much the
weekend-warrior types. They tend to use their boats more regularly.”
The marinas that suffered the most were those that tend to attract
boaters on a more seasonal basis, as many customers chose to save money
by keeping their boats up north. “Other places were hit a lot harder,”
Melwani said, pointing especially to the Florida Keys. [Miami
